When we first purchased our RV we could not wait to take it out on a long road trip. Heading out and seeing the country, exploring new places is what we love most about the RV life. Due to my work schedule the best time for taking an extended vacation that year turned out to be the end of September into early October. We had two weeks for exploring. Originally I really wanted to head to Acadia National Park, but after some careful calculating I felt we needed a little more than two weeks to really enjoy the trip out and back. Searching for RV Parks out east I came across North Pole Resorts Campground in Wilmington, New York.
Located at the base of Whiteface mountain sitting along the Ausable River , North Pole Resorts Campground looked like a perfect place to spend a week leaf peeping around the Adirondack mountains. Truth be told, we generally lean towards north or west of us for vacation (not sure why), so this was total new adventure heading east to upstate New York. So we plotted our course and spent two weeks (one week destination and the other week of travel) exploring our eastern states.
About The Resort
North Pole Resorts Campground is broken up in to two areas. The “Resort Section” sits along the river and is more geared toward families with several pools, mini golf, and close proximity to the general store. The “100 Acre woods” section is across the street and slightly up the road from the main campground and offers more wooded sites. We opted for the 100 Acre Woods section and booked our stay for six nights (full hookup).

North Pole Campground – 100 Acre Woods
Most of the site in the 100 Acre Woods are nestled in the woods. When we arrived we were assigned on of these spots. However, we had a hard time leveling out so we asked if we could move. The hosts were super nice and told us which spots were open during our time. We ended up with site #33B. In the end this site was more spacious than our original site. Plenty of privacy between sites. The only downside to this site was that the firepit was located closer to the road, we ended up not having a lot of campfires that trip.

The Adirondacks
Our location for exploring the Adirondacks was perfect. I don’t think we could have picked a better place. The campground was about 20 minutes from Lake Placid, down one of the prettiest mountain roads you’ve ever seen. Down the road was High Falls Gorge and Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort.

High Falls Gorge – Wilmington, New York
I fell in love with the Adirondacks on this trip – not sure if it was the colors of the leaves or just being the mountains, but the whole area is breathtaking. We spent the week exploring all over – to the top of Whiteface Mountain down to the winding Ausable River. Everything a short distance from North Pole Resorts Campground. There was so much to explore. I also found a new appreciation for the New York State on that trip. I’d been to NYC a number of times (not a fan, I prefer the woods) but New York State – wow! So many beautiful places we found on that trip. I would definitely want to head back that way someday.
