For the second part of our 2011 two week journey through Wyoming and Montana we stayed we stayed at a number of places. Montana is HUGE! We traveled up the western side (starting outside of Yellowstone National Park) and up to Glacier National Park (stopping outside of Missoula). Then as we started our journey back home, it took an entire day to drive from north to south (on the eastern side) where we stayed for a night at the first KOA in Billings. Here’s where we stayed.
Yellowstone Holiday RV Campground – West Yellowstone, MT
Located right on Hebgen Lake. This campground is about 15 minutes west of Yellowstone National Park and less than 10 minutes from the town of West Yellowstone. We were fortunate enough to have a site right on the lake which provided some wonderful views. Website

Up the road from the campground is Earthquake Lake site of the 1959 7.3 earthquake that took a large part of the mountain and destroyed a resort.

River Edge Resort – Alberton, MT
The campground is located about a half hour west of Missoula right along the Clark Fork River. It’s a beautiful area backing up to the Lolo National Forest. The campsites are fairly close together but the views are amazing. A nice place to stay for an overnighter. Website

Mountain Meadow RV Park – Hungry Horse, MT
Close to the top of the list for favorite places. I loved this place. The grounds are hilly and wooded, the campsites are spaced apart. Several meadows to walk through and it’s only 9 miles west of Glacier National Park. I snapped the shot below sitting the in passenger seat of the RV while Jim went to check us in. Beautiful! Here’s a shot of our campsite – it was towards the top of a hill. Great private sites.

Billings KOA Holiday – Billings, MT
The very first KOA campground located along the Yellowstone River. This place is HUGE and super crowded. They did have a nice campstore. This was a quick stopover for us (just a night) – we were lucky enough to get a site on the end (which we prefer at these types of campgrounds just to give us a little more room). Website
