The second night of our return trip home from the Adirondacks, we had made a reservation at Lake Erie State Park in Brocton, New York. The park sits on a bluff overlooking Lake Erie and has 97 campsites. It was the middle of the week when we arrived so the campground was not crowded (a plus!).
Given our experience the previous night at Delta Lake State Park, driving through and arriving at our campsite at Lake Erie State Park was a breath of fresh air. First, we arrived early in the day (we must have been in a hurry to leave Delta Lake because normally we tend to arrive at campgrounds later in the afternoon). Second, driving to the campsites is like driving through a country club. Lush green rolling hills. We kept referring to it as Bushwood Country Club from the movie Caddyshack (after 12 days on the road we were losing it a bit).
We arrived at site #18, the sun brightly shining the sky, a gentle breeze blowing from the lake. Our site backed right up to the lake on the bluff. The site was level (hooray!) and the campsites were spaced out plenty enough so that you were not on top of your neighbors. Our area of the campground was not wooded but it didn’t matter. It was lovely.
After setting up camp I had plenty of time to explore. As I’ve mentioned previously during our stay at Adirondack Gateway Campground, I try to take advantage of exploring all the places we stay at even if it’s for just one night. So off I went down the bluff to check out the shoreline.
By the time I came back to camp Jim pointed out the sun was starting to set right on the lake. We were treated to one of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen.
