Our “go to” campground when traveling down to Southern Illinois. Great place right off of I-57 just north of Campaign, Illinois. Great for a one-night pit stop. The owners were super friendly. We stayed here going to and coming back Thanksgiving week 2016.
D & W Lake Campground is open all year long – though our first night there (late November) they were shutting the water off due to freezing temps. Here’s a shot from the “morning after” – during the night it dropped down to the low 20’s. By morning everything was covered in frost.

D & W Lake Campground, Campaign IL – Spot #20
There were a number of things I loved about this campground.
First, the location – you can’t beat it. Right off the highway, quick pull in/pull out.
Second – the owners. Super friendly but let you have your space. We chatted several times with them.
Third – they have a fenced in dog area. Our pups loved to have a little “off-leash” time.
Fourth – I love the fact that for a private campground you can reserve your site online. I really wish more campgrounds had this feature. For those of us folks who are “picky” about where they park their rig (really mostly because we like our space) this is a big plus in my book.
On our return trip we stayed along the lake. Nothing like opening up the shades to a little lake view (even though it was the end of November).

UPDATE:
We just returned from a trip down to Lake Shelbyville where we stayed two nights (one going and one on the return trip) at D & W Lake. In the summertime this campground is packed full. But the hosts are the nicest people. Even when full, a great overnight place to stay.
